Cuando las noticias dominicales sobre el frente
hicieron palidecer al párroco y al pueblo,
y se prodigaron bendiciones,
y las campanas enmudecieron en la torre,
la viuda del Soldado (pasando un agradable verano,
a la sombra de hayas ondulantes)
sintió hondo en el corazón su fe satisfecha
y el párroco y el pueblo tomaron prestada su alegría.
