william wordsworth. los desamparados

Los desamparados

La paz que otros buscan, encuentran;
las peores tormentas no duran mucho tiempo;
el cielo concede incluso a la mente más culpable
una amnistía para el pasado;
¿Cuándo se invalidará mi sentencia?
Sólo rezo para saber lo peor;
y ruego como si mi corazón fuera a estallar.

¡Oh agotadora lucha! Silencioso año
que en apariencia dice un cuento cierto;
y aún así lo abandonan y temen
y las esperanzas son fuertes y prevalecerán.
Mi fe más calma no escapa al dolor;
y, sintiendo que espero en vano,
creo que él regresará.

William Wordsworth, Cockermouth, 1770.- Rydal Mount, 1850.

The foresaken

The peace which other seek they find;
The heaviest storms not longet last;
Heaven grants even to the guiltiest mind
An amnesty for what is past;
When will my sentence be reversed?
I only pray to know the worst;
And wish as if my heart would burst.

O weary struggle! silent year
Tell seemingly no doubtful tale;
And yet they leave it short, and fear
And hopes are strong and will prevail.
My calmest faith escapes not pain;
And, feeling that the hope in vain,
I think that he will come again.
