john ashbery. amor evidente

Amor evidente

Lo que eran malas noticias
se evidenciaba demasiado tarde
para poder hacer algo.

No me dictaron ningún sueño urgente,
ni necesitaba un nombre o algo.
Todo estaba arreglado.

En la mediana ciudad de mi conciencia
los ratones construían un coloso.
El cuarto de efectos especiales está allí.

Él no tanteaba el terreno.
El día era uno para él.
Algunos días no deja su cuarto
y esos son los mejores días,
lejos.

Meaningful Love

What the bad news was
became apparent too late
for us to do anything good about it.

I was offered no urgent dreaming,
didn't need a name or anything.
Everything was taken care of.

In the medium-size city of my awareness
voles are building colossi.
The blue room is over there.

He put out no feelers.
The day was all as one to him.
Some days he never leaves his room
and those are the best days,
by far.

There were morose gardens farther down the slope,
anthills that looked like they belonged there.
The sausages were undercooked,
the wine too cold, the bread molten.
Who said to bring sweaters?
The climate's not that dependable.

The Atlantic crawled slowly to the left
pinning a message on the unbound golden hair of sleeping maidens,
a ruse for next time,

where fire and water are rampant in the streets,
the gate closed—no visitors today
or any evident heartbeat.

I got rid of the book of fairy tales,
pawned my old car, bought a ticket to the funhouse,
found myself back here at six o'clock,
pondering "possible side effects."

There was no harm in loving then,
no certain good either. But love was loving servants
or bosses. No straight road issuing from it.
Leaves around the door are penciled losses.
Twenty years to fix it.
Asters bloom one way or another.

maría teresa andruetto. réquiem/selección

***
Señor,
permíteme bajar
a los pozos
de mi pensamiento,
manantiales de sangre,
depósitos intactos
de locura,
con la frente alta,
sin miedo
a los derrumbes.

***
He muerto otras veces.
Y resucité
buscándome en pedazos.

Pero esta vez
repito gestos celebro ritos
y no me encuentro.

Kodak

Yo
los miraba
tras la lente de la Kodak
con la que padre
registró la guerra
antes
que la muerte
disolviera sus pupilas
y delegara en mis ojos
el dolor de mirarmne
devastada
por la ausencia.

jonio gonzález. deslumbramiento

Deslumbramiento

un ciego nos guía hacia la luz
mientras oímos el coro de los sordos
levantar el augurado mástil
en la cumbre del monte

entretanto
los preceptores del destino
prohíjan fábulas
órdenes
proclamas

y lo vemos todo
y nos interrogamos en voz alta
a pesar de los que se vuelven
hacia nosotros y nos señalan
de la prevista mentira

y seguimos al ciego
ciegamente

sino malentendidos: no saber oír,
trastabillarme;
raro cansancio hacía que diera cosas
por sentado: el abrazo;

Y te besó con una miríada de hierbosas lenguas;
“He sido amable.
No me voy.”

The tomb at Akr Caar
“I am thy soul, Nikoptis. I have watched
These five millennia, and thy dead eyes
Moved not, nor ever answer my desire,
And thy light limbs, where through I leapt aflame,
Burn not with me nor any saffron thing.
See, the light grass sprang up to pillow thee,
And kissed thee with a myriad grassy tongue;
But not thou me.
I have read out the gold upon the wall,
And wearied out my thought upon the signs.
And there is no new thing in all this place.
I have been kind. See I have left the jars sealed,
Lest thou shouldst wake and whimper for thy wine.
And all thy robes I have kept smooth on thee.
O thou unmindful! How should I forget!
Even the river many days ago,
The river? thou wast over young.
And three souls came upon Thee--
And I came.
And I flowed in upon thee, beat them off;
I have been intimate with thee, known thy ways.
Have I not touched thy palms and finger-tips,
Flowed in, and through thee and about thy heels?
How 'came I in'? Was I not thee and Thee?
And no sun comes to rest me in this place,
And I am torn against the jagged dark,
And no light beats upon me, and you say
No word, day after day.
Oh! I could get me out, despite the marks
And all their crafty work upon the door,
Out through the glass-green fields
. . .
Yet it is quiet here:
I do not go”.
